Kildare senator strengthens links with Kildare on visit to America

Senator Aubrey McCarthy and US congressman Richie Neil

Independent Kildare senator Aubrey McCarthy took part in a series of St. Patrick’s Day engagements across Washington, DC. and the states of  Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

The visit formed part of Ireland’s annual diplomatic outreach, strengthening political, cultural, and economic ties with key U.S. leaders.

During his time in the capital, Senator McCarthy met with US congressman Timothy M Kennedy and congressman Richie Neal on Capitol Hill.

There were discussions concerning ongoing cooperation between Ireland and the United States, the importance of Irish‑American heritage as well as opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as trade, education, and cultural exchange.

Naas native McCarthy then travelled to Louisiana, where he was welcomed by the state governor Jeff Landry. Their meeting focused on expanding links between Ireland and the southern United States, with particular attention to economic development, tourism, and shared cultural  traditions celebrated during the St. Patrick’s Day period.

In Oklahoma, Senator McCarthy held discussions with Governor Kevin Stitt.

This meeting explored the potential partnerships in agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. These sectors are of growing importance to both regions.

Sen McCarthy highlighted County Kildare’s strengths in innovation, enterprise, and education emphasising Ireland’s role as a gateway to European markets.

Speaking after the visit, Senator McCarthy said the trip was “an invaluable opportunity to represent Kildare and Ireland on the international stage.”

He also said he hoped it would deepen long‑standing friendships in addition to opening new avenues for cooperation that will be of benefit to communities at home.

While he was there the senator  also took part in several St. Patrick’s Day events with Irish‑American groups.

These events served to celebrate the enduring bonds between Ireland and the millions of Americans who share Irish ancestry.
