Motorists travelling towards Dublin are experiencing severe delays on the N7.

And the gardaí have closed a road.

Traffic is being delayed from Junction 8 northbound which is the exit for Johnstown, Kill and an alternative route to Sallins, via Kerdiffstown. It will be most familiar to those seeking to access Naas Golf Club, Palmerstown House or Johnstown Garden Centre from the Dublin-bound side of the route.

A slip road which carries local traffic on to the N7 towards Rathcoole and the city has  been closed because of the delays and a garda is on duty at the slip road to prevent drivers using it.

Gardaí are also present on the N7 road.

Follow up delays have developed on the nearby bridge and in the immediate vicinity.

However, for now at least, traffic is moving relatively smoothly in the opposite direction towards Naas/Newbridge/Kildare town - because some of is diverting on to minor routes.
