A woman is "drinking day and night” and keeping the children up until the early hours of the morning, it was alleged in Naas District Court.

Her husband made the claim as part of the case for seeking court protection.

The man also told Judge Desmond Zaidan that she had an assault case against him which was dropped.

He also said the woman had a court order against him and the level of drinking in the family home is concerning for the children.

The man also said she is abusing him and the past year has “been a disaster” for him.

He said the woman, who was not present or represented, stays up late and the children are being kept in different houses when this happens.  He also said the woman is "using fear to control me” and added “I’m walking on eggshells.”

He said she is using the order she has against him as a weapon to stop him seeing the children.

He added he is living in fear of what she will do or say.

He added that she is constantly belittling him, shaming him as a father and excludes him from everything.

Judge Zaidan granted an interim protection order and adjourned the case to October 12.
