A Senator has called meeting with Minister for Education Norma Foley in relation to school place issues in South Kildare.

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O' Loughlin made the announcement has called the meeting, along with the Principal of the Curragh Community College, to progress the development of the new school building at Magee Barracks.

The meeting will take place on December 13.

The latest comments from the Senator follow after she previously expressed concern over school places in Kildare alongside other local representatives.

Senator O' Loughlin, who is also a former teacher, said: "I have been working closely with Minister Norma Foley TD and her senior team in the Department to progress the new school building at Magee barracks as well as the interim measures to alleviate pressure on the system for September 2023."

"Like so many others, I have been frustrated by the lack of action in recent years, and the delays with respect to the new building for Curragh Community College, but I have continued to raise this at every opportunity, and I am pleased to say that progress is now finally being made on the site for the new school."

She continued: "Progress is being made on the new school building, and I am determined to do everything in my power to ensure that this project gets over the line.

"I want to pay tribute the Principal of the Curragh Community College Nessa Doyle for her work to get the project to this point, but we need to keep the pressure on the Department to ensure that our school capacity is adequate."

In related news, Senator O' Loughlin last week called for more appropriate playground facilities for the town of Newbridge.
