FINE IMPOSED

A man with seven previous convictions for driving with no insurance was handed down a suspended prison sentence at Naas District Court on Thursday, February 2.

Robert Abbott, with an address given as 29 Oaktree Green, Cunnaberry Hill, Kildare town, pleaded guilty to driving without a valid driving licence, NCT and insurance at the Monasterevin Road on August 2, 2019.

Gardaí told Judge Michéle Finan that the 34-year-old had a total of 26 previous convictions, seven of which were for driving with no insurance.

Judge Finan told Mr Abbott that he had come to 'the end of the line', and imposed a four-month custodial sentence on him, to be suspended for two years.

She also warned him: "If there are any further breaches, I will not hesitate to send you to jail."

The judge also imposed a total fine of €750 on Mr Abbott.
