Now here's a great yarn!

'Wool in School', an education business dedicated to promoting the use of wool as a sustainable eco-fibre, has officially launched their wool inspired programme: Wool2Ewe and Knitting Kits.

A recent event in Kildare saw 190 children and 190 older people knitting together as part of the programme, with a focus on sharing stories and learning from one another.

An exhibition of all knitting will be on display in McAuley Place, Naas in March 2023.

Speaking on the appeal of knitting, Director of Wool in School, Lorna McCormack, said: "Knitting is a powerful social healer and no better way than between two people.

"We believe knitting gives us a powerful reminder that for us to exist we need to keep that invisible thread between us, we need each other."

"We aim to strengthen this bond between older people and children with wool, by knitting a beautiful bunting together representing friendship, courage, strength and most importantly knitting our lives together," she added.

According to Ms McCormack, Wool in School's aim is 'to increase awareness of Irish grown wool and its production and benefits within schools and other education facilities.'

She elaborated: "We introduce children and teachers to wool and sustainability, and the 'farm-to-fabric' process by looking at the properties and benefits of wool and why it is a sustainable resource.

"We bridge the gap between the theoretical understanding of the sustainable use of wool and the practical impact it has on our communities and the world."

"It is a natural resource, available to us all for a mountain of uses. It is important to share knowledge and insight into the uses of wool for the next generation.

"With their ever-increasing awareness of the burden we have placed on our environment with plastics, carbon and fossil fuels, young people are actively looking for solutions... wool has a place in this vital change," Ms McCormack concluded.
