KILDARE ROUND UP: Clane-Maynooth Municipal District story briefs for March 2023

The Slate River (ABOVE) was among the topics discussed at the meeting held on Friday, March 3.

RIVER CLEANING

Kildare County Council (KCC) has said that the next inspection of the River Slate is scheduled for 2024.

The council said that the River Slate is inspected at multiple times throughout the year, and that maintenance of the river was carried out in 2020 and 2021.

The news was welcomed by Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Weld.

FUNDING GRANTED

Funding was received for an unbound surface (quarry dust) from Lowtown to Herberton Bridge.

KCC made the information known at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting held in the Council’s Arás Chill Dara HQ in Naas on on Friday, March 3 last.

The council added: "KCC are awaiting documentation from the successful contractor ahead of issuing the Letter of Acceptance.

"All Road Crossing Works are to be complete by the end of 2023."

BUS BAY ASSESSMENT

New bus bays may be on the way for a school in Maynooth.

The proposal for the bays was put forward by Fine Gael councillor Tim Durkan.

KCC said that it will carry out an assessment to see if it can install two additional bus bays at the Girls National School, Maynooth.

MEETING WITH LOCALS

KCC was asked to consider meeting residents from the L70781 road in Prosperous to discuss issues regarding road layout and maintenance.

The council told Social Democrats Cllr Aidan Farrelly that the Municipal District Engineer will meet with him to investigate the issues.

REMEDIAL WORKS

Development Control have undertaken remedial works to the below ground sewers at Royal Meadows Estate in Kilcock.

KCC has said that the works have to brought the sewers 'to a taking in charge standard’, and that buried manholes ‘have been brought back to a serviceable level.'
