The first group of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war in their homeland are due in Kill shortly.
A definite arrival date is not known but it’s likely to be in about two weeks.
According to Kildare County Council cathaoirleach Fintan Brett the former equestrian centre has undergone a significant transformation and one of the issues delaying the opening is the failure of the ESB to complete its work.
The premises have been painted and a new kitchen, complete with a dumb waiter has been built.
There is a service area and kitchenettes.
“A huge amount of work has been done there,” said Cllr Brett adding that the vast majority of people living in the area will welcome the refugees.
Initially it is expected that about 50 families or some 150 people will arrive.
In all, some 340 people will be accommodated there in 165 pod-style rooms.
