A car ended up in ditch at Ballindoolin in North-West Kildare during a drink-driving incident.

That's what gardaí in Naas District Court told Judge Desmond Zaidan on Thursday, November 9 last.

Gardaí said that Kevin Raleigh, with an address listed as 3 Riverside Lawns, Kinnegad, County Westmeath, committed the offence at Ballindoolin on May 13, 2019.

They said that when they encountered the 36-year-old, they noticed 'a strong smell of alcohol' and that Mr Raleigh 'was unsteady on his feet.'

Gardaí added that he made full admissions to the offence.

He was also prosecuted at Naas District Court on the date in question for driving with no licence or insurance.

The court was told that he has 23 previous convictions, with the last being in 2017 for a hit and run offence, in addition to a dangerous driving offence, which took place in Mullingar.

Mr Raleigh was disqualified for two years due to this offence.

However, he was not disqualified at the time of the offence on May 13, 2019.

Judge Zaiden imposed a two-year driving disqualification on Mr Raleigh for the drink-driving offence, in addition to a €500 fine, which is to be paid within three months.

He also imposed a €500 fine for the no insurance offence and €250 for the no licence offence.

These fines are also due to be paud within three months.
