Coco's Law: Mother of late teenager Nicole Fox sits down with Kildare-based radio station

The late Nicole ‘Coco’ Fox Fenlon was discussed by her mother, Jackie, when she appeared on Kildare FM Radio Station yesterday.

The mother of the late Dublin teenager who forms the basis of Coco's Law has discussed her daughter's story with Kildare FM Radio Station (KFM).

Nicole 'Coco' Fox Fenlon died by suicide in 2018 and was the victim of an intense bullying campaign, which included cyberbullying.

Following her death, Coco's mother, Jackie Fox, vigorously campaigned and succeeded in pressuring the government to bring in 'Coco’s Law', otherwise known as the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act, which prohibits the sharing of intimate images without the original poster’s consent.

The bill was signed into law by President Michael D Higgins back in December 2020, and was officially passed on February 9, 2021.

Recalling her daughter's strengths, Jackie said that Coco was good in school, and in particular, was 'a wizard at maths.'

Jackie explained to host Eoin Beatty: "She wanted to be an accountant and go travelling but she never got to do any of those things. She loved to sing and dance.

"Everything was normal. She was happy growing up."

Jackie also said that while she initially felt anger and hate towards Nicole's bullies, she said that she no longer lets them consume her life now.

She poignantly added that Coco's Law 'will make sure that Nicole will never be forgotten.'
