This week Newbridge Musical Theatre will present the hilarious musical comedy, Legally Blonde, which runs from Easter Monday to Saturday, 6 April.
The show will be performed at Newbridge College Theatre, where the group has staged productions since its inception in 1981.
Based on the 2001 Robert Luketic film of the same name, starring Reese Witherspoon and Luke Wilson, Legally Blonde adds a phenomenal musical score to the zany comedy that made the movie such a hit with audiences.
The stage musical adaptation proved popular with audiences and critics alike running for 18 months on Broadway and receiving seven Tony nominations in the process.
The musical’s story follows Elle Woods, a Californian fashion merchandising student who plans to marry her college sweetheart, Warner.
However, when Warner dumps her to pursue a law degree at Harvard University, Elle plans to enrol too and win him back. Will she succeed in her endeavour and will Harvard Law School be ready for her unique brand of pink positivity?
This production of Legally Blonde features an incredible cast, who all hail from Newbridge and its surrounding areas, including the show’s leads Jodie Kelly and Daniel Ryan, who play Elle Woods and Emmett Forrest, respectively.
Both Newbridge natives, Daniel has featured as a soloist at the National Concert Hall and has won both the Best Actor and Best Singer awards at the Association of Irish Musical Societies Awards for his performances in recent years, while Jodie has appeared on stages across Ireland, including the Helix and the Olympia theatres, and has trained at the internationally-renowned Guildford School of Acting.
Speaking about the group’s production of Legally Blonde, Chairman of Newbridge Musical Theatre, Conor Kilduff, said,
“This show offers an incredible, feel-good experience. It’s bright, fun, and hilarious, and I defy anyone to walk away from Newbridge College Theatre this week without a smile on their face.
“While the musical itself is outstanding, it is delivered with incredible ability by our exceptionally talented cast, who fill the stage with captivating performances. That all of this is accompanied by a live 12-piece band only elevates this production further, creating one of the most memorable theatre experiences in our 43-year history.
“This is one show you will simply not want to miss.”
Tickets for Legally Blonde are priced at €23, plus booking fee, and are available from www.newbridgemusicaltheatre.com.
