Firework causes ‘extensive’ damage to house near Athy, County Kildare

A firework caused an 'extensive' amount of damage to a house near Athy, according to a member of An Garda Síochána (AGS).

Garda Lennie Donlon made the comments while discussing the incident on KFM Radio this morning.

He told host Eoin Beatty that the criminal damage by fire incident occurred in Ballyroe on Saturday, April 6 last, at around 1.30am.

"The fire caused an extensive amount of damage to the house," Gda Donlon said: "A spent firework was found at the scene."

Gda Donlon concluded by calling on anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Athy Garda Station on 059 863 4210.

When asked about the incident by the Leinster Leader, a spokesperson for AGS had this to say: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at a house in Athy, County Kildare on April 6, 2024.

"No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made."

The spokesperson concluded: "Investigations are ongoing."
