The matter was brought up at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, May 3 last.

A large number of residents in Derrinturn are experiencing 'a huge sense of fear' due to incidences of antisocial behaviour in the area.

The comments were made by Fianna Fáil Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which was held on Friday, May 3 last.

He motioned for KCC to liaise with An Garda Síochána in relation to 'repeated reports' of anti-social behaviour that have been occurring in Derrinturn.

COUNCIL'S RESPONSE

KCC told Cllr Fitzpatrick the following via its report at the meeting: "In accordance with KCC’s Anti-Social Behaviour policy all reports of anti-social behaviour by council tenants are investigated by the council and where appropriate the council engages with An Garda Siochana, and we are committed to continued engagement with all relevant agencies.

"Following an inter-agency meeting with residents, a Crime Prevention Officer conducted a report on a number of estates in the area providing crime prevention tips to residents."

KCC added: "Following on from this report, boundary works have taken place to improve security in the area."

Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy echoed the sentiments of the last paragraph of KCC's report, adding that he was aware that An Garda Síochána had recently liased with the local community in relation to their concerns.

HOUSING

Furthermore, Marian Higgins, KCC's Director for Climate, Community, Environment and Water, told Cllr Fitzpatrick that she would speak with KCC's Director of Housing about the issues raised.
