Local plant swap event encourages the growing of food

Blessington

The first ever Blessington plant swap took place at the local public library. It was staged to encourage sustainability and wellness within west Wicklow as well helping the wider environment.

It was organised by the Blessington Allotments Campaign and with support from the Blessington Tidy Towns group.

They say one of the aims of plant swaps is about “growing local communities” and encouraging the growing of food and plants at home.

Hundreds of plants were shared by local people at the event and advice and information was given.

Seeds and plants were received from community growers in Dublin and Omagh.

Donal McCormack BAC chairman said seeds and plants were given out to encourage people to “come together to grow”.

Jason Mulhall, chairman of BTT noted that both organisations work together to make a positive impact on climate change and biodiversity locally.

It’s hoped to stage another event in April.
