McDonalds reveals when Newbridge restaurant will reopen after devastating fire

McDonalds has revealed when their restaurant and drive-thru in Newbridge, Co Kildare will reopen.

Eagle-eyed locals spotted the reveal at the site of fast food favourite which was gutted by fire last August.

A McDonalds branded sign has been erected on one of the hoarding panels at the site with the words 'Preparing: Opening Late Summer' printed on it.

"The update will be music to the ears of Big Mac fans who have been without the McDonalds in Newbridge since August 15 last year.

The fire began after a vehicle in the drive-thru went ablaze at the Moorefield premises, adjacent to the main route through the town.

No injuries resulted from the incident at the time.

The fire was tackled by three fire crews as traffic came to a standstill. The premises has remained closed ever since.

Work began on an exempted development to rebuild the restaurant in March.

Work has been ongoing since then and the steel structure of the building is now visible above the hoardings.

Franchisee Sean Quirke said in March: "Since the fire at the restaurant last August, we have been overwhelmed by hundreds of messages of support from loyal customers, neighbours, stakeholders and elected representatives in the Newbridge area, and our partner groups and organisations across the local community.  We are extremely grateful to each and every one of them for their kindness and encouragement.
