Jury sworn in at Central Criminal Court for Newbridge murder trial

Jury begins considering their verdict in Dundalk taxi driver murder trial

A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a man who has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of a 65-year-old man in his Co Kildare home over four years ago. 

At the Central Criminal Court today, Brian Ibe of fixed abode and formerly of Moore Park, Newbridge, Co Kildare, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of Peter Kennedy in Newbridge between April 28, 2020, and May 12, 2020.

Mr Ibe (23) also pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to a charge of assault causing harm to Garda Brendan O’Donnell at Newbridge Garda Station on April 29, 2020.

The trial is expected to last up to two weeks and will begin tomorrow before Mr Justice Paul Burns and a jury of seven women and five men.
