"I have heard all the excuses now."
This is what Judge Zaidan said after being told that a defendant couldn’t pay a fine because he 'lost' the PIN to access the payment of the fine.
The case appeared before the judge at Naas District Court on Thursday, October 10 last.
The defendant in question was represented by solicitor Seamus Boyle, and had pleaded guilty to a minor speeding offence.
Mr Boyle told the judge that the man 'lost' the PIN to access the payment of the fine, as he did not have the notification with him, and as a result, it couldn’t be accessed.
Judge Zaidan replied: "I have heard all the excuses now. You have to come up with something new to pull the wool over my eyes."
He added: "Let’s assume that he did lose his PIN and didn’t pay it… that all goes to mitigation; it does not turn him from guilty to not guilty [of committing the speeding offence]."
The judge decided to impose a fine of €120 on the man, and gave him three months to pay it.
