Kildare Village
A woman took goods to the value of nearly €2,500 at Kildare Village, near Kildare town.
Before Naas District Court was a woman, then aged 18, with an address in Clondalkin, Dublin.
She was charged with taking the goods on April 1, 2023. Sgt Mary Meade said multiple thefts took place at around 5.50pm.
She added that two females were arrested and one was a youth.
The goods included €369 worth of goods from Tommy Hilfiger, €300 worth of goods from Guess and €1,667 worth of items from Calvin Klein.
The court heard that all of the property was recovered and the defendant had no previous convictions.
Solicitor Brian Larkin said the defendant was aged 18 at the time and is now living in Moldova and a psychology student in that country.
He added that she had relations here, in Citywest.
“There is no excuse and she’s not making an excuse,” added Mr Larkin.
He said she had returned a couple of times in relation to this matter and was willing to pay €2,000 to charity.
He added it was a “stupid mistake" and she had been in Ireland for two and a half years.
Judge Desmond Zaidan said that expensive brands had been targeted for theft and these crimes add to the cost of goods for consumers because security measures to prevent theft have to be put in place. He adjourned the case for payment but noted that the defendant had already had some time to come up with the money.
