The People First Credit Union Community Champion Awards have been announced, with runners-up Athy group Sing & Sign receiving €2,000 in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the community.
This year’s People First Credit Union Community Champions Awards showcased the incredible work of local groups.
Carol Murphy, Marketing Manager for People First Credit Union said: “We launched the Community Champions Award to shine a light on those who dedicate their time, energy, and passion to making our communities stronger, kinder, and more vibrant places to live.
“The Community Champions Award is a €10,000 award which was created with a purpose - to fund capital projects that leave a lasting impact on our community, with a particular emphasis on environmental change and an ESG focus.
“We want to support initiatives that don’t just make a difference today but will continue to benefit future generations, shaping a more sustainable and inclusive community for all.”
On the night, Ballinakill Community Development Committee was crowned the winner, taking home the €10,000 grand prize for their Virtual Tour Project. This innovative project highlights the village’s historical features and business sites, promoting active lifestyles, engagement with community history, use of village facilities, tourism, online tourism, and documentation of the village.
Runners-up Athy Sing & Sign and Abbeyleix Community Garden each received €2,000 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community.
People First Credit Union recognised the support received from Laois PPN with the Community Champions Project and looked forward to collaborating again for 2025.
