A planning application was submitted to Kildare County Council on January 31 2025 by Elgin Energy ESI Limited for construction of a solar farm in Kildare.
The application is for a period of 10 years for the 235.8 acre development, at townlands of Portgloriam, Clonsast, Ballybrack, Ballyloughlan, Farrandum, Co Kildare.
The application includes the construction and completion of a solar pv and bess development to inclde pv panels (solar panels) mounted on metal frames.

Also proposed are inverter stations, battery storage infrastructure, (bess units, pcs units, storage and maintenance units), new access tracks and underground cabling.
There will also be perimeter fencing with CCTV cameras and access gates, temporary construction compounds and all ancillary grid infrastructure and associated works.
The solar farm would be operational for 40 years.
A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) was submitted as part of the application.
