Naas Racecourse has taken a significant step in its commitment to sustainability and biodiversity by successfully planting 5,000 native Irish trees in partnership with the 100 Million Trees Project (100MT). This initiative enhances local ecosystems and strengthens the Kildare racecourse’s long-term environmental strategy.

The newly planted trees will create two thriving biodiversity zones on the racecourse grounds, supporting local wildlife, improving air quality, and contributing to Ireland’s afforestation goals.

The Naas Racecourse team was joined by the horticulture students from the Kildare branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, who actively participated in the tree-planting initiative. Their enthusiasm and dedication added a special community element to the project, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity in environmental efforts.

David Mulcahy, co-founder of 100MT, said: "At the heart of this initiative lies a shared commitment to the environment and the community, as 5,000 native Irish trees are being planted here that will transform two designated areas at the Naas racecourse into a thriving ecosystem.  The project aims, not only to contribute to Ireland's ambitious afforestation goals, but also to foster a sense of community pride and environmental stewardship. We sincerely thank AIB for the generous support they have shown for The 100 Million Trees Project."

The 100 Million Trees Project, launched in 2022, has grown rapidly, with over 200,000 trees planted in 2023 and an ambitious goal of planting 550,000 trees across 230 sites in 2024/2025.

Milly Harwood, Naas Racecourse Sponsorship Manager added: "We are thrilled to have completed this tree-planting initiative as part of our wider sustainability strategy and proud to play our part in the 100 Million Trees Project helping to contribute to a greener future for our community. Planting these trees is just one of many steps we are taking to make Naas Racecourse a leader in sustainability within the racing industry."
