Two new special education units are being sought by the Board of Management (BoM) for one County Kildare school.

A planning permission application currently with Kildare County Council (KCC) shows that the BoM of Scoil Íde Naofa, which is located in Kilmead, Athy, intends to construct the two units on the school's premises.

Specifically, the BoM intends to seek permission from KCC for the provision of a single-storey extension to the rear of the existing single-storey school building, which has an existing floor area of 1,048 square meters.

As noted by the description within the application, this extension will feature:

  • Two Special Education Unit classrooms
  • Two new toilet cubicles to the existing mainstream classroom
  • A boiler room with a proposed floor area of extension of 468sqm
  • Minor internal alterations
  • Six additional car parking spaces, including one accessible car parking space
  • A vehicular set-down area
  • A secure external soft play area
  • A sensory garden

Permission is also being sought for all ancillary site development works.

The date received is listed as April 28 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as June 1 and June 22 respectively.

According to the school's official website, Scoil Íde Naofa is a Catholic primary school.

It is a co-educational school which caters for boys and girls from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
