Three pedestrian crossings are needed on one road in this Kildare town

But work in one location will have 'significant complications'

They want the crossings located at Meadows and Byrne, Roseville estate and an integrated crossing from Barker and Jones to the PTSB building.

KCC engineer Donal Hodgins pointed out that the councillors have allocated €50,000 in 2025 for the provision of a new signalised pedestrian crossing and ancillary works in these areas.

Mr Hodgins said it will be possible to progress the design of one new signalised crossing “and other crossings can be provided subject to funding being available.”

He also said any work  at the Poplar Square junction “has significant complications due to the presence of underground culverts close to the surface.”

He said there it would be necessary to review the width of the existing crossings and the number of approach lanes.”

This, he added, is needed to tackle drivers who “exit the junction when the pedestrian green man is showing.”
