PHOTOS: Great news as €1.4m extension to Kildare school is approved

Includes new two-storey SEN (Special Educational Needs) facility

Planning permission has been granted for a €1.4 million extension to Scoil Naisiunta Naomh Padraig on Bracknagh Road, Rathangan, Co. Kildare.

The development will see the construction of a new two-storey SEN (Special Educational Needs) Base extension, with a total floor area of 934 sq.m.

The ground floor will provide two class bases with associated safe spaces, WCs and changing places, storage, a central activities space, an office and a boiler room.

The first floor will include four classrooms, each with ensuite WCs, as well as a resource room and storage space.

The project also includes a number of site improvements, including:

  • Removal of existing prefabs and replacement with a new tarmacadam play area

  • Partial removal of the existing boundary and trees, to be replaced with new boundary treatment

  • Demolition of the existing changing rooms (48 sq.m) and construction of new changing rooms (87 sq.m)

  • Creation of a new enclosed sensory garden and SEN play area

  • Provision of four additional car parking spaces in the existing car park

  • Installation of a new gas tank and secure fence enclosure

Associated landscaping, drainage, and site works will also be carried out.

The extension is expected to provide much-needed additional classroom space and modern facilities for students, particularly those with special educational needs, in the Rathangan area.
