A councillor has motioned for Kildare County Council to progress the "quiet road" initiative in one Municipal District.
The motion was submitted by Labour Party Cllr Mark Leigh at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which was held on Monday, September 15 last.
He also urged Kildare County Council to progress the initiative "in consultation with the NTA".
Cllr Leigh’s motion was seconded by the Mayor of the MD, Fine Gael Cllr Ivan Keatley.
In response to Cllr Leigh’s motion, Kildare County Council said that it is currently progressing a Part 8 for a "quiet road" in Old Kilcullen, and added that it has "identified several other locations for 'quiet roads' in the Municipal District".
Kildare County Council added: "These can be progressed when funding and resources allow."
Cllr Leigh told Kildare County Council that he welcomed the report, and insisted that there is "an appetite is there" when it comes to sustainable initiatives being implemented within the Athy Municipal District.
