A substantial extension has been proposed for one County Kildare secondary school by its Board of Management.
A planning permission application currently with Kildare County Council (KCC) shows that the Board of Management for Scoil Mhuire Community School in Clane wishes to construct the extension on its grounds (the school itself is located on the Prosperous Road).
The application shows that the Board of Management intends to construct a new two-storey extension to the existing school building, which would consist of four Special Educational Needs classrooms and associated rooms on the ground floor, with five general classrooms, two science rooms and ancillary rooms on the first floor.
If approved by KCC, the development would also include: the demolition of existing boiler and plant room; provision for a new relocated boiler room and switch room; and minor alterations and an extension to the existing woodwork room on the ground floor for connection to the new extension.

In addition, the Board of Management is seeking permission for: external works, including a new set down area and additional 12 new car parking spaces, including accessible parking; and provision for all landscaping, footpaths, boundary treatments and all ancillary site works.
The date received on the application is listed as October 1 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as November 4, 2025 and November 25, 2025.
According to the school's official website, it describes itself as an "Irish, co-educational, post-primary school owned by the Irish government".
It also says the school is managed by a Board of Management with ten members: two parents, two teachers, and six representatives from the trustees, who are Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board and the Presentation Sisters.
It also recently held an Open Evening on Wednesday, October 1 last.
