Her body has been removed from the scene to Naas Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted

A woman has been killed in a house fire which occurred in County Kildare over the weekend.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this incident, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal fire at a residential property in Nurney, County Kildare, on Saturday, October 11 last.

"A woman in her 50s, the sole occupant of the house, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Fire services extinguished the fire."

The spokesperson also said that the woman's body has since been removed from the scene to Naas Mortuary.

A post-mortem examination is due to be conducted.

The Leinster Leader understands that An Garda Síochána currently does not suspect foul play in relation to this incident.

UPDATE — October 13, 2025, 1.49pm approx — Kildare County Council (KCC) issued the following statement to the Leader in relation to this incident:  "Kildare County Council can confirm that Kildare Fire Service was alerted to a domestic fire near Duneany Crossroads, Kildangan at approximately 11.14pm on Saturday, October 11 last.

"Appliances from Monasterevin and Athy Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene, along with the rostered senior fire officer on call.

"The Monasterevin fire crew was first in attendance at the scene.

"Upon their arrival, they quickly established the presence of a female casualty within the property."

KCC concluded: "The casualty was removed from the property and was later pronounced deceased at the scene."
