Residents of one County Kildare village are seeking a solution to speeding and signage issues which they claim are negatively affecting the region.

In an attempt to address the matter, a print / physical petition, which has been seen by the Leinster Leader, has been set up — one which and relates to the Maddenstown area.

According to the petition's creator, Patrick Donnelly, there are "frequent issues" relating to speeding and signage in Maddenstown, specifically along the road to Maddenstown North.

He elaborated: "Currently, the signage suggests indicates that the acceptable speed for along this road by 50 kilometres per hour [km/h] when entering the domestic area.

"Not only is it incredibly dangerous to have vehicles moving at this speed, but the area is home to many senior citizens and children, to whom these vehicles pose an even higher risk."

As such, Mr Donnelly, along with a number of others who have signed his petition, are calling for the speed limit to be reduced to 30 km/h, and for "the road signage to be changed to reflect this".

His petition has found support in the form of Sinn Féin TD for Kildare South, Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh, who also said that Kildare County Council (KCC) should consider implementing the changes proposed by Mr Donnelly and his petition.

Anyone who wishes to speak to Mr Donnelly in relation to his petition can call him on 086 869 1077.
