A planning application has been submitted for a €2.6 million extension to Scoil Mhuire Community School on Prosperous Road, Clane, Co. Kildare.
The proposed two-storey development would provide new teaching spaces and upgraded facilities to meet growing demand and enhance special education provision at the school.
According to the plans, the ground floor of the extension will include four special educational needs (SEN) classrooms along with associated support rooms. The first floor will feature five general classrooms, two science rooms and a number of ancillary teaching spaces.
The project also includes the demolition of the existing boiler and plant room, and the construction of a new relocated boiler and switch room.
Minor alterations and an extension are proposed to the existing woodwork room to connect it with the new building, according to Building Information Ireland database.
External works form a key part of the proposal, including the creation of a new set-down area and the addition of 12 car parking spaces, with provision for accessible parking. Landscaping, new footpaths, boundary treatments and all other ancillary site works are also included.

Scoil Mhuire is one of the main post-primary schools in Clane and serves students from the town and surrounding areas. The planned expansion aims to accommodate rising enrolment and improve facilities for students with additional learning needs.
The planning application has been lodged with Kildare County Council and is currently awaiting a decision.
If approved, the €2.6 million project would represent a major investment in education infrastructure for Clane, providing modern classrooms and specialist facilities for future generations of students.
