Punchestown Racecourse celebrates 150 years

Punchestown Racecourse in Co Kildare marked its 175th anniversary in style with an intimate evening at The Apartment, Kildare Village, celebrating the unveiling of a limited-edition John Sturgess print collection in support of Barretstown and Tiglin.

Barretstown is Ireland’s largest provider of therapeutic camps and programmes for children with cancer and other serious illnesses, and Tiglin provides services for those who have experienced homelessness, addiction, and social exclusion.

Guests were welcomed by Kildare Village Business Director Victor Biffi Rosano, who highlighted the importance of Kildare Village and the Barretstown long standing partnership and the evening as a wonderful tribute to community and heritage.

Hosted by Bernard Jackman, former Irish and Leinster Rugby Player, the event brought together representatives from Punchestown Racecourse, alongside special guests from the worlds of racing, art, and philanthropy, including Conor O'Neill, Tamso Doyle, Marietta Doran, Jess Colivet, Bernie Coyne and Richie Galway David Mongey, Chairman of Punchestown Racecourse, officially unveiled the limited-edition collection.

The print collection features high-quality reproductions of original works by John Sturgess, a renowned 19th-century artist celebrated for his exceptional detail and ability to capture the atmosphere of great racing occasions.

In keeping with the spirit of community and giving, remarks were shared by Dee Ahearn, CEO of Barretstown, and Aubrey McCarthy, founder of Tiglin, who highlighted the vital work of their respective charities and how the funds raised will benefit them greatly.

The evening concluded with Ted Walsh, Irish amateur jockey turned racehorse trainer, who joined host Bernard for a conversation about Punchestown’s storied past, the art of racing, and the timeless appeal of Sturgess’ work.

Proceeds from the sale of the limited-edition prints will go directly to Barretstown and Tiglin, supporting their ongoing efforts to transform lives through healing, rehabilitation, and hope.
