Kildare County Council (KCC) has asserted that it address the vacancy of a derelict property located in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD).
The matter was raised by Sinn Féin councillor Noel Connolly at the latest MD meeting, which took place on Wednesday, November 19 last.
At this meeting, Cllr Connolly motioned for KCC to take action in order to bring the home bearing Folio number KE288F "back into use, up to and including initiating a Compulsory Purchase Order if necessary" (specifically, the property is located in the townland of Toghereen, near Lackagh).
His motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Kevin Duffy.
In addition, Cllr Connolly claimed that the property has not been used for "about 15 years", has no Eircode and that one section of land located nearby has "overgrown trees", which partially obscures the property from public view.
Replying to the motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Town Regeneration team will open an investigation into this property and use all available methods to address the vacancy and bring the property back into use."
