Kildare woman's home 'was deliberately burned down'

A woman told Naas District Court that her west Kildare home was deliberately burned down.

It was stated on the woman’s behalf by solicitor Jackie McManus court that there was domestic violence in the woman’s home and she was left “in a very bad way.”

She described the place where the house was burned down as “a bad area.”

She also said that she was homeless for a period.

Ms McManus said that the woman had three young children and “she is doing her best.”

The woman was prosecuted for stealing prepaid electricity cards on two dates in December 2022 valued at €50 at the Spar store in Allenwood.

The court heard that the woman has 18 previous convictions, including some for theft.

She was identified on a CCTV recording recovered from the store.

Judge Zaidan commented that all electricity providers are very expensive.

He applied the Probation Act.
