Mels Pub of Narraghmore urges council to reconsider

Kildare art and tourism village plans appealed

An appeal has been lodged against Kildare County Council's decision to turn down permission to Mel's Pub in Narraghmore for the conversion of a grain store into an artist's workshop, the errection of 12 glamping pods, conversion of a machinery shed to guest rooms and a reception/waiting room, and a 26 space extention to the car park.

The appeal, which was lodged on December 5, put forward the economic and community benefits of such a tourism initiative.

The council had refused permission due to a lack of detail on the wastewater treatment system and it's impact on the area.

The appeal on behalf of Mel's Pub, asked that the council grant permission subject to an agreement and submission on the details of the system prior to construction. It also said it would drop two of the glamping pods if needed to accommodate the system.

An Comisúin Pleanála is due to make a decision by April 20, 2026
