Gardaí from the Kildare North Community Engagement Area, supported by Divisional Roads Policing, carried out a highly successful Day of Action focusing on education, community engagement, and enforcement of E-Scooter and E-Bike legislation on Monday, December 15.

Multiple checkpoints were conducted from early morning in areas including R148 (Intel), Leixlip Interchange, Celbridge, Maynooth, and local schools.

Hundreds of new E-Scooter legislation leaflets were handed out to road users, cyclists, pedestrians, students, and compliant E-Scooter riders.

Excellent engagement took place at Salesians College and CBS, with approx. 1,250 pupils fully compliant – no E-Scooters detected.

Detections & Seizures:

• Several high-powered E-Scooters and E-Bikes were seized under Section 41 Road Traffic Act

• Vehicles capable of speeds 60–80km/h, some with throttles and seats, requiring insurance, tax, licence & registration

• A car and high-powered motorbike also seized for road traffic offences

Patrols at Maynooth University resulted in no detections, with positive engagement and advice given to students.

Gardai report the operation was a huge success, particularly from an education and prevention perspective, and they received very positive feedback from parents, teachers, and the community.

Gardai would like to thank all members involved, Divisional Roads Policing, and Garda Stacey Connolly for developing the new E-Scooter leaflet and driving the initiative.

More operations are planned for the New Year.
