BREAKING: Gardaí seize over €4 million of suspected cocaine following searches in Kildare and Wexford

Gardaí have seized over €4 million worth of suspected cocaine following a number of searches which were conducted in Counties Kildare and Wexford.

A garda spokesperson explained that the searches were carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation: "On Wednesday, December 17 last, as a result of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime activity under Operation TARA, an operation was put in place with personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.

"This operation involved searches of a business premises in County Kildare and residential addresses in County Wexford, supported by personnel from the Eastern Region."

According to the spokesperson, this resulted in the seizure of a total of 58kg of suspected cocaine, with an estimated value of €4,060,000, subject to analysis.

The spokesperson also said that two males aged in their 30s & 40s and one female in her 40s were arrested "pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, in relation to facilitating and enhancing drug trafficking activities for an organised crime group".

Furthermore, they said that these three suspects are currently detained pursuant to the provisions of Section 50 of Criminal Justice Act 2007 at garda stations located in Kildare and Dublin.

"The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis," the spokesperson added.

They concluded by saying that investigations are ongoing.
