Perry's Supermarket in Athy has today announced that it will close it's doors for the final time on Wednesday, December 31.
In a letter posted on it's Facebook page, the family said; "This decision was very difficult to make on so many levels. Given the ever increasing costs and the continuous pressures on turnover from local and online options available today the investment levels required to upgrade, modernise, help sustain and grow the business were just could not be financially justified.
"Over the past few months efforts have been made to see if it was possible to sell the business as a going concern to any interested third parties, to help continue and keep the business in the town and help save as many jobs as possible. To date this has not been successful, but we will still endeavour to pursue all possible avenues.

"We thank all our customers for their support, loyalty and who chose to shop with us over the years. Also to thank so many for their recent kind words which has meant more to us than we could ever properly express."
"On behalf of the Perry Family and all the staff members within the shop thank you again. It has been a privilege," concluded Stuart Perry.
