At least one unit of the service went to the scene - near Victoria Terrace and The Sycamores - and the personnel tackled the fire from a one way road adjacent to Wolfe Tone Street.
The incident occurred at around three o'clock.
The emergency was quickly dealt with and the firefighters had departed the scene to return to their station by 4pm.
It was not immediately known what started the fire, though initial speculation suggested it may have been the result of an accident.
It's understood there were no injuries and little damage was caused.
In a separate incident at a nearby residential area, flames and sparks could be seen coming from a wire attached to a public utility pole close to a private residence.
At around the same time there were widespread power outages in areas across the town with many estates reporting a loss of electricity and the traffic lights at the Dublin Road/Blessington Road junction were not functioning.
