ALERT: Fire risk sparks urgent recall of power banks which may have been sold in Kildare

Belkin has issued an urgent product recall of portable power banks sold across Ireland, including in County Kildare, as they have been found to pose a serious safety risk.

The recall affects the Belkin Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K model number BPB002 which were sold by various retailers across the country.

According to the official Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) safety alert "the portable power bank’s lithium cell component may overheat, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers."

Around 827 products are believed to be affected in the Republic of Ireland, and customers are being urged to act without delay.

Consumers are being advised that the Belkin Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K being recalled has a model number of BPB002, with the UPC codes: 745883797622, 745883806751, 745883797639, 745883806768.

The CCPC states that consumers in possession of the recalled power banks "should stop using the product immediately disconnect it from any power supply or other products."

The power banks were sold via the following retailers:

  • TJX Ireland Unlimited Company t/a TK Maxx
  • Dcb Group (Service)
  • Exertis Ireland Ltd
  • Extreme Computers – Ireland
  • Harvey Norman Trading (I) Ltd
  • Hibernia Evros Technology Group
  • Hunt Office Technologies Ltd
  • Markit B2B
  • Shi International
  • Wriggle Learning Ltd

Customers are being advised if they purchased their recalled power bank at TK Maxx they can return it in store for a full refund.

The CCPC notice also stated that consumers can determine if their power bank is included in the recall by following the steps on the Belkin website, and if it is they can either receive a full refund or Belkin store credit.
