David Hyland (31 years old) has announced his retirement from senior inter-county football with Kildare. He is the latest in a growing list of players who have bowed out following the success of 2025.

David Hyland, an accomplished defender and former Kildare captain, who has also played successfully at midfield, made his championship debut in 2013, and has won both U21 and minor titles in the white of Kildare.

He did, of course, captain his club Athy, to win the 2025 SFC going on to reach the Leinster Senior Club final, that was his second senior title to add to three u21 titles and two minor titles he won with his club.

A fiercly committed player, his decision to retire takes away another very experienced player from  Brian Flanagan's team in 2026.

Having said that David Hyland owes nothing to Kildare, he has been a brilliant servant since making that debut all the way back to 2013 - a long stint at senior inter-county level by any means.
