A County Kildare bar and restaurant which has been in operation since 1885 has announced that it will cease its restaurant trade "until further notice".
Harrigan's of Newbridge, also known as Edward Harrigan and Sons and Harrigan's Bar and Grill, made the announcement on social media yesterday (January 8 last).
Vivian Carroll, the owner of the business, said that he wanted to share the "difficult" news to the general public on behalf of both himself and the kitchen team.
He explained: "From Sunday, January 18 [2026], we will be ceasing our restaurant trade until further notice.
"All vouchers will of course be honoured."

Mr Carroll, who also owns another Newbridge-based bar and restaurant, Judge Roy Beans, further said: "Our bar will remain open as normal from Wednesday to Sunday, and we hope to continue welcoming you and have your continued support.
"A huge thank you to our excellent staff and loyal customers for your support; we hope to update you soon on our plans for the future."
"With sincere gratitude, Vivian and staff," he concluded.
A number of online commenters have expressed their shock and extended their sympathies to the employees of Harrigan's.
One commenter said: "Really bad news for the town.
"Always brilliant service and great food."
They added: "Been going here [for] a long time; big loss."
Another commenter said: "This is very bad news! Excellent food and lovely staff."
Lastly, a third commenter claimed: "We're losing all the good restaurants."
