An assessment, along with the installation of extra traffic calming measures, is being sought for one County Kildare road.

The road was raised by Social Democrats Cllr Pat Balfe at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal (MD) District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, February 18 last.

Cllr Balfe brought the matter to the attention of Kildare County Council (KCC) by submitting a motion at this meeting.

He urged KCC to carry out an assessment of the Togher Road in Monasterevin, "with particular regard to the presence of commercial, residential and childcare facilities in the area".

In addition, through this motion, Cllr Balfe also requested KCC to install "appropriate" traffic calming measures in order to "improve safety for both pedestrians and road users".

His motion was seconded by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly.

Replying to Cllr Balfe's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The MD Office will assess existing line marking and signage along the Togher Road in Monasterevin to determine if additional traffic calming measures are warranted."

Cllr Balfe in turn told KCC that he acknowledged the report and also thanked the MD engineer for "looking at the road during the week".

However, he emphasised to KCC that the area "is on a bad bend".
