A Fianna Fáil councillor is to call on Kildare County Council to undertake a feasibility study on the extension of the footpath along the R405, Maynooth.
Cllr Donna Phelan will table her motion at the upcoming meeting of Clane Maynooth Municipal District, to be held on Friday, April 10 next.
In her motion, Cllr Phelan explains that she wishes for an extension of the footpath “from the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road (MERR) junction to the bridge crossing the N4.”
Cllr Phelan explains this is in the interest of pedestrian safety and connectivity for residents in the Barrogsown area, Maynooth.

The footpath extension, she motions, would enable safe access to local schools, shops and services, “as this route is currently heavily trafficked and lacks continuous pedestrian infrastructure, presenting a significant safety concern, particularly for families and school children.”
Elsewhere in the meeting, and staying under the Transport section, Cllr Peter Melrose (SD) calls for an assessment of Moyglare Road, Maynooth.
Specifically, Cllr Melrose seeks the introduction of traffic calming measures, including but not limited to, raised pedestrian crossings, speed ramps and driver speed feedback signs.
Cllr Angela Feeney (LAB) calls on the council to engage with relevant bus service providers to increase the number of Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) screens at bus stops “given the rise in the number of buses in Maynooth.”
In a similar vein, Cllr William Durkan (FG) asks that the local authority take “urgent action” to expedite the delivery of planned bus stop upgrades throughout the municipal district.
Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) calls for a speed survey on the L1003 at Kilmore, Johnstownbridge, while
Cllr Paul Ward (FF) asks that the council carry out an urgent inspection and repair of numerous large potholes along the Laragh-Branganstown Road in Kilcock.
One thing which regularly crops up at the municipal district meetings is school safety, with this month being no exception, courtesy of Cllr Ward.
Cllr Ward calls on the council to assess traffic management at Newtown National School, Kilcock.
He also asks for a feasibility report for a yellow box road marking, an additional bus bay, and double yellow lines.
According to Cllr Ward, illegal parking is obstructing visibility and creating a safety hazard at peak times.
Finally, Fine Gael councillor, Tim Durkan will ask the local authority to carry out a review of the traffic light sequence on the Straffan and Meadowbrook Road junction, Maynooth.
