Remedial works are due for damaged cycle stands in the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD).
Kildare County Council (KCC) gave the assurances to Independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy at the latest MD meeting, which took place on Friday, April 10 last.
The topic was raised when Cllr McEvoy, who appeared at the meeting by virtual means, motioned for KCC to 'replace or temporarily remove damaged cycle stands' and to 'indicate options to deploy additional cycle parking' within the MD.

His requests were seconded by Labour Party Cllr Angela Feeney.
Responding to Cllr McEvoy’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The MD office maintains this infrastructure on the street and will replace damaged cycle stands as required.
"KCC will engage with the National Transport Authority regarding possible funding opportunities for cycle parking facilities and generally forms part of schemes and upgrade works."
In addition, KCC pointed out that the implementation and construction of cycle parking facilities is subject to availability of personnel and resources.
Following this, Cllr McEvoy stressed to KCC: "We do need cycling infrastructure [within the MD] and I would urge for them [the damaged cyclestands] to be replaced as soon as possible."
A representative for KCC who was also in attendance at the meeting replied by asserting to Cllr McEvoy that these replacements would take place in the near future.
