The motion, by Cllr Pádraig McEvoy (IND), is just one of many in the upcoming Clane Maynooth Municipal District meeting

An Independent councillor has called on the council to “examine opportunities, where appropriate”, to review the road signage at Mainham Cemetery and Clongowes Wood College from the R407 Kilcock Road, Clane.

According to Cllr Pádraig McEvoy, this is in light of increased traffic volumes in the area and queuing times “to cross the 80km/h road safely.”

Cllr McEvoy's motion is one of many to be raised in the 'Transport' section of the upcoming Clane Maynooth Municipal District meeting, to be held on Friday, May 1 2026.

A second motion by Cllr McEvoy calls on the local authority to engage with Google Maps to explore options to advise drivers, particularly HGV drivers, to avoid Clane Main Street in preparation for the opening of the Capdoo Link Road extension, “having regard to the intensity of traffic pattern changes experienced during the recent road blockages.”

Staying with Transport, and Cllr Donna Phelan (FF) calls for the council to undertake the repainting of the disabled parking bay on Main Street, Maynooth (outside O'Neill's public house), and the disabled parking bay located at the side of The Roost Bar.

The measure, argues Cllr Phelan, will ensure the parking bays are clearly visible and accessible for those who require them.

Also from Cllr Phelan, and a motion calling for the repair and resurfacing of Buckley's Court back lane in Maynooth.

Cllr Phelan asks that if there is insufficient budget to complete the works in 2026, that they be included as a priority in the 2027 Programme of Works.

Elsewhere in the meeting, Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) asks that the council engages with the National Transport Authority (NTA) and relevant stakeholders to explore the feasibility of providing a shuttle bus to link up with local rail services at peak hours from Clane, Prosperous “and environs.”

A separate motion from Cllr Mulroe calls for a review of road signage in the Prosperous area “to ensure its accuracy and maintain the existing local signage.”

Always a source of frustration for councillors is the issue of speeding on the county's roads.

In that regard, Cllr Tim Durkan calls on the local authority to outline what measures can be put in place to reduce speeding on the R407 Portgloriam, Kilcock.

Cllr Durkan further asks the council to make a statement on the matter.

Finally, Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick asks that the council resurface the road from Kilmeague to Mylerstown Cross where the road, he explains, “needs attention.”
