A man being prosecuted for an alleged sexual assault in a Kildare house, Naas District Court heard.
The man is aged in his 50s and it is claimed that the alleged offence took place at an address in County Kildare on September 27, 2024.
Garda Róisín Kelly said the injured party was playing with another child when the defendant allegedly brought her upstairs and licked her vagina and anal area.
The garda said the girl was aged six at the time and she was interviewed by specialised interviewers.
She added that the girl’s command of language was limited because of her age but she spoke to her mother about the alleged incident.

Defending solicitor David Powderly said the allegation is denied.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that bail terms had been agreed between the state and the defendant.
Judge Desmond Zaidan adjourned the matter to May 26 for the preparation of a book of evidence and the defendant was granted bail on his own bond of €3,000.
Judge Zaidan said the defendant is to have no contact with the injured party or any witnesses named in the book of evidence. He said he is to surrender his passport and any travel documents and reside at a named address in Kildare.
He is also to sign on three times a week at a named garda station and to provide a current contact telephone number.
He granted free legal aid and the judge imposed restrictions on the reporting of the case.
