Popular clothing chain to shut Kildare store as liquidation sale begins

Popular clothing retailer Born Clothing has confirmed it will close all stores nationwide, including its Naas premises, with liquidation sales set to begin today, April 23. 

The women’s clothing chain, which first opened in Galway in 2009, announced the unfortunate news on social media. 

A spokesperson for Born Clothing said, “After 16 wonderful years in business, it’s time for us to say goodbye. 

“We want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your support over the years- for shopping with us, supporting us and being part of our journey. It has meant more than we can ever put into words. 

“To our wonderful team, thank you for being the heart and soul of our business. Your loyalty and dedication will always be appreciated,” the statement concluded.

It is understood that the High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the group on April 21 after learning of business difficulties such as the pandemic, minimum wage increase and high business rates. 

Aside from Naas, Born Clothing has a number of stores across Ireland, including in Limerick, Laois, Tipperary, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, Dublin, Cork, Westmeath and Kerry. The shop closures will result in the loss of over 100 jobs. 

The retailer also stocked many popular brands, such as Vera Moda, Only and Vila. The liquidation sales have officially begun today, where there is up to 70% off everything. 

These sales allow for a 30-day return policy with reason and an accompanying, valid liquidation sale customer receipt. Any additional statutory rights remain unaffected. 

As the company is in provisional liquidation, no gift vouchers can be accepted during the sales, no returns of stock bought previously can be refunded and no credit note that wasprovided by the store can be accepted. 

Claims for refunds, return of stock and/or credit notes rank as unsecured claims in the liquidation process.
