Planning permission documents lodged with Kildare County Council (KCC) show that a change of use has been proposed to Firmount House, which is located at Millicent Road in Clane.

Applicant Eilin O' Carroll has sought consent from KCC for the change of use of existing ground floor of Firmount House from current commercial use, as granted planning permission under Pl. Reg. File Ref. No. 15/1145 to residential use.

The documents note that Firmount House is a Proposed Protected Structure.

The date received is listed as December 19 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as January 31 and February 21 respectively.

Firmount House can trace its history all the way back to the 13th century, when there was reputed to be a fortified house on the current site.

In 1964, the property was purchased by the Department of Defence who ran it as a Control Centre for Nuclear Tracking and named it Section Seven Regional Control.

It was later sold again in 2012 to Ms O' Carroll and her husband David Pansegrouw.
