Public meeting to be held on planned development in Kilkenny

Six local authority age-friendly apartments are being proposed to be constructed at the site of the old weather station on the Dunningstown Road in Kilkenny.

At a recent meeting of Kilkenny County Council it was highlighted that 381 of the 814 applicants are the housing waiting list are looking for one-bedroomed accommodation. 285 applicants are seeking two-bed units, 123 people are seeking three-bed units and 25 or 2% of the overall figure are looking to secure four-bedroomed homes.

Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, Mary Mulholland said that the local authority needs to prioritise the development of one and two bedroom units.

The proposed development is at the site of the disused weather station adjacent to Talbot’s Court and Dunningstown’s Road.

“The units will be focused on being age friendly as there are a number of people on the list over 65 and will need to meet that need,” added Ms Mulholland.

A public information meeting will be held this month.
