Gardaí conducting a checkpoint on Green Street yesterday night (Monday) were taken by surprise when the driver of the car attempted to avoid detection by driving off at speed.
The driver sped down a cul-de-sac before being intercepted by chasing gardaí.
Fortunately, the gardaí on the checkpoint avoided being struck by the vehicle .
The driver now faces summonses for no insurance and dangerous driving.
The car had only been purchased a half hour before the detection.
Gardaí seized the car as well.
