Serious concerns have been raised by Deputy John McGuinness, over the planned housing of 131 asylum seekers in a Kilkenny City hotel.

"We found out today that this group of men will be arriving in Kilkenny shortly at an Oireachtas members meeting. There has been no consultation with public representatives and Kilkenny County Council," he said, adding that he has serious concerns about the lack of available services.

"The Government are creating difficulties for the people coming here and for the people who are living here.

"There needs to be some sort of pause," he said adding that the Government needs to 'get their act together' on the issue.

"It is a real problem and it is growing out of control," said Deputy McGuinness.

It is understood that the group are being accommodated under the International Protection Programme.

Minister for Integration Roderic O'Gorman was contacted by The Kilkenny People and was not available for comment.
